Key To Building 1

Discover five distinctive wines—Albariño, Grenache, Chardonnay, Nero D’Avola–Negro Amaro, and Riesling—each crafted with expert care, adventurous spirit, and a focus on vibrant flavors. Every glass highlights innovation, elegance, and delicious versatility.

The name Key to Building 1 pays tribute to Joe’s beginnings at his family’s winery, where Building One stood as a symbol of creativity, innovation, and discovery in the artistry of winemaking.

These wines are currently available exclusively from our online shop or the Quilt & Co tasting room in downtown Napa.

Araciel

Two wines from opposite ends of the globe, yet sharing a common thread. Araciel, meaning ‘Altar in the Sky,’ symbolizes what both separates and unites these vineyards. Focused on hillside locations in the San Rafael Mountains of the Santa Maria Valley, California, and the eastern foothills of the Andes Range in Mendoza, Argentina, these two regions offer the ideal conditions for Albariño and Malbec. Both the Santa Maria Valley (Santa Barbara County) and Valle de Uco (Mendoza) benefit from abundant sunshine, temperate weather, and alluvial soil, allowing these varietals to be crafted into world-class wines.

These cool-climate deserts provide extended hang time, enabling the Albariño to retain its bright acidity and vibrant minerality, while the Malbec achieves perfect ripeness, offering bold fruit flavors and velvety tannins. Both wines deliver a balanced, fruit-forward, and elegant expression.

Westhoff Pioneers Bottle Line-up

Westhoff Pioneers

Westhoff Pioneers is not only a story about my family of immigrants, but the many generations of immigrants that have come to the American shores in search of a better life, full of opportunity, and inadvertently creating the world’s most spectacular melting pot. By wagon, boat, train, plane, and whatever means necessary, these life seekers brought their culture into the fold, sharing knowledge, stories, ideals, arts, food, and wine. As my family came from parts of Italy, Germany, and France between the 1850s and 1920s they worked as laborers in the field, cobblers, homesteaders, and winemakers, not knowing that the skills they passed down would become our family livelihood.

Today we see the same nature of immigrants seeking a new life. These are not just people from another country. These are THE people who had the drive and grit to make the journey effectively. The best of every corner of the world accumulating in one great country that offers a dream that could be a reality with nothing more than a vision and a strong work ethic. These are the people of the world who were not afraid of losing… they were afraid of not trying.

With Westhoff Pioneers, we bring the humble roots of our ancestors into the spotlight, showcasing generations of grape growing and winemaking passed down through time— and just as importantly, the enduring spirit of curiosity that led us to plant these unique varietals with nothing more than the hope that they would one day become fine wine. We are proud to honor this same curiosity shared with the generations before us. From classic French varieties planted in Monterey County, to distinctive Italian varietals in Santa Barbara County, and the timeless varieties that paved the way for fine wine in America-planted here in Sonoma County-these wines stand as both an expression of how far we have come and a tribute to the foundational figures and visionaries of California’s wine history.
